Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence might have needed to readjust travel plans after the early games Sunday afternoon.

Trevor Lawrence‘s Sunday should have been a quiet one. He should have woken up from a 195-yard, one-touchdown performance against Virginia Tech and began prepping for Notre Dame and the ACC title game.

And he probably did. However, much like any 21-year-old, social media is king.

Let’s just say the well-thought undisputed No.1 pick in April’s Draft had a busy day seeing his name trending on Twitter.

Entering Sunday, the New York Jets seemed destined to land the top selection in 2021, all but cementing the end of the Sam Darnold era. However, Darnold came to play, starting two of the Jets’ first three drives ending in touchdowns to Jameson Crowder.

The Las Vegas Raiders’ defense bet their luck on struggling play from across the middle of the field while missing four starters. Two strip sacks from Clelin Ferrell ended a par of positive drives from Darnold while a Trayvon Mullen interception ended the first half with Las Vegas leading by three.

But who would have thought with 35 seconds remaining, the Jets were going to do it. They were going to win. The Lawrence sweepstakes just became must-see television between bad teams, right?

Too bad Gregg Williams elected to Cover 0 blitz Derek Carr, leaving rookie corner Lamar Jackson in single coverage on speedy Henry Ruggs III. Five seconds remaining, the Raiders improved to 7-5 with the 31-28 victory.

Lawrence’s second team in the running went down the wire

If the Jets would have won, they could be tied for the top spot with Jacksonville entering Week 14. Thank goodness for their hopes to remain the laughing stock of the NFL in the Land of 10,000 Lakes stayed true late.

Jacksonville tied  it up late on a James Robinson run and going for two. The pressure was on the Minnesota Vikings to put the game with a field goal from Dan Bailey. He missed from 51, giving the Jaguars a chance from just past the logo. Jacksonville’s Chase McLaughlin a chance to be the hero.

He missed from 62.

Three drives into overtime and an interception from Harrison Smith gave Bailey a second chance and eventually the Vikings a 27-24 victory.

Were these just bad performances from teams that aren’t terrible, or were they rather implosions of really horrendous clubs trying to tank on purpose? Darnold didn’t have a good game, but it wasn’t terrible either. Meanwhile, it’s clear the Jaguars need help under center with the Gardner Minshew mania looking to be finished.

Lawrence likely started his day wondering what life would be like in the Big Apple. With 35 seconds left in MetLife Stadium, he probably asked himself how “Sunshine” jokes he’d get moving to the sunshine state.

Then again, never bet on the Jets failing not to tank in stellar fashion.
