Bobby Wagner knows his Seattle Seahawks defense has to play better going forward.

Bobby Wagner and the Seattle Seahawks defense cannot play like it did last week and win.

Seattle suffered a shocking upset at home last week vs. the New York Giants. A few key defensive lapses allowed Colt McCoy and the G-Men to stun Seattle at Lumen Field. Wagner believes his side of the ball can get it right next week vs. the flightless New York Jets, but he and his teammates must take accountability to avoid going 0-for vs. the MetLife Stadium occupants.

“I think it was more so us than anything,” said Wagner. “Just had a moment in the third quarter where we didn’t perform as well as we should have. … We’ve got to play better. But I do feel like we’re making improvement and getting better every week, so that’s something that we can build upon. We’ve just got to make sure it sustains the whole game.”

Will Seattle avoid an even worse upset on Sunday vs. Gang Green?

While this is no reason to panic losing to a potential division winner in the Giants at home last week, should the Seahawks fall at home to the Jets, yes, there will be some serious problems up in the Pacific Northwest. Seattle is 8-4 on the season and within striking distance of the Los Angeles Rams for first place in the NFC West. So look for Seattle to play infinitely better this Sunday.

Keep in mind the Jets just fired their defensive coordinator Gregg Williams after he called an all-out blitz on the final play of the game vs. the Las Vegas Raiders. This led to an improbable Derek Carr to Henry Ruggs III touchdown in the final seconds to keep the Jets winless. Gang Green may be motivated to avoid going undefeated, but let’s be real, this is an awful New York football team.

Hopefully, Wagner’s message to the Seahawks defense got through and it will play better Sunday.
