Fans are not happy after Florida barely fell in the College Football Playoff rankings following a bad loss.
The latest edition of the College Football Playoff rankings were revealed Tuesday night and as expected there was plenty of controversy.
Some fans are not happy with a 5-0 Ohio State team sitting firmly in the No. 4 spot. But that was not the talk of the evening. Fans were furious with these rankings because Florida ended up at No. 7 overall, a drop of just one spot, after losing to LSU this past weekend.
Florida loses to an unranked LSU team, at home, and falls from No. 6 to No. 7?

What kind of special ridiculousness is this? Blow it up. Blow it all up, and kill it with fire. https://t.co/86O1dgUkdu
Fans react to Florida’s surprise ranking
This is a shock to say the least. The Gators just lost to a now 4-5 LSU squad to fall to 8-2 on the year. A win against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game could vault a two-loss Florida team into the Playoff.
Florida fell ... one spot for losing to LSU. Presumably because of head to head with No. 8 Georgia. Just like A&M had to stay above Florida. It's one big SEC echo chamber.

It is clear the mysterious committee is keen on having a backup plan to ensure at least one SEC team makes the Playoff. No. 5 Texas A&M even has a chance to make it into the Playoff without even appearing in the conference title game.
I don’t like to be one to shout “bias” and “rigged” and all that, but Florida slotting in at at No. 7 after losing to an atrocious LSU team at home is nothing short of astounding, and it really makes you wonder what exactly the committee values

I can't be seeing this correctly. My eyes must be shot. There's zero chance the CFP committee has Florida ranked No. 7 after losing as a 23-point favorite to a beleaguered LSU team. No way they would do that

The SEC bias by the #CFBPlayoff committee has been obvious from the jump. Georgia and Florida at No. 8 and No. 7 are just that high to prop up Alabama. So much for ranking teams based on how they play and not the brand.

Fans have a right to be frustrated. There is no transparency with these rankings and a team like Cincinnati that is 8-0 can be perfect and still not jump ahead of a two-loss SEC team. That is before even bringing up 11-0 Coastal Carolina.
The only argument for not expanding the playoff is to keep the regular season from becoming meaningless.

Florida just lost at home to a team with a losing record that had 50 scholarship players and dropped from No. 6 to No. 7.
Folks, the regular season is meaningless.
Two-loss Iowa State is No. 6. Two-loss Florida is No. 7. Undefeated Cincinnati and undefeated Coastal Carolina are outside the top ten. Discuss.

There is still a question of if the regular season results matter, or if the committee identifies a handful of teams they deem to be playoff worthy based on talent.
A fix would be nice, but the NCAA won’t be complaining about top programs playing in their annual playoff. That is good for the bottom line and Florida only dropping one spot keeps their Playoff hopes alive.
