Kyle Kuzma plans to use his new contract to ‘do a little more good’ in Flint, Michigan

Kyle Kuzma is going to give back to his community in Flint.
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers are building a team that can compete for championships every year for the next half-decade. In addition to the re-signing of Anthony Davis, the likes of Montrezl Harrell and Marc Gasol were brought in on cheap deals. The Lakers also rewarded former 27th overall pick Kyle Kuzma with a nice three-year contract. While Kuzma has some financial stability after a solid start to his career, he appears to have his mind set on more philanthropic ways of using that cash.
Kuzma might be more financially secure after this payday from the Lakers, but he is more focused on “doing good” in his hometown of Flint, Michigan that he holds so dear.
Kyle Kuzma will be in important role-player in the Lakers’ title-defense
Kuzma’s scoring average might have dipped from 18.7 points per game in 2018-19 to 12.8 last season, but that was to be expected now that LeBron and Davis were in town to take over the scoring load. While it took some getting used too, Kuzma is a solid gunner off the bench, capable of leading the second unit when LeBron or AD needs a break.
While the Flint water crisis has abated to a degree due to the fact that most of the city’s lead water service lines have been replaced with copper pipes, this is still a genuine public health emergency, and Kuzma taking a leadership role in this crusade is something worth celebrating.
While Kuzma might have his best years on the basketball court ahead of him, especially on a Lakers team geared to win championships in the next few years, the work he does in Flint will have a greater impact than anything he will ever do on the basketball court.
