The Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis will meet on Tuesday to discuss a max contract for a reunion.

No one thought it was possible, but the Los Angeles Lakers found a way to build a better overall roster this offseason a month after winning their 17th NBA title in franchise history.

However, there was one question mark remaining, and that was when the Lakers would re-sign star big man Anthony Davis. We appear to have that answer with the start of the preseason on the horizon.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, Davis is expected to finalize a max contract with the Lakers of his choosing, with the two sides slated to meet as early as Tuesday.

An Anthony Davis reunion with the Lakers was always inevitable

Prior to this move, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Nov. 20 that Davis wasn’t going to re-sign with the Lakers immediately. Rather, he wanted to take his time to weigh the length and structures of potential maximum contracts. Some of those options include a three-year, $106 million deal to coincide with LeBron James’ contract, or a five-year, $189 million deal if he wants to commit to Los Angeles for the long-term.

The Lakers, looking to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2011, acquired Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first-round picks. The goal, obviously, was to build a superstar duo alongside James with the goal of winning the NBA championship.

In his first season in Hollywood, Davis averaged 26.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 50.3 percent from the field. Additionally, Davis was named to the All-NBA First Team and All-Defensive First Team.

The Lakers showed that they’re all-in on repeating as champions this upcoming season with the additions of Marc Gasol, Montrezl Harrell, Wesley Matthews and Dennis Schroder. Now, it’s only a matter of time, possibly in a matter of days, until Davis re-ups with the Lakers to really put them over the edge.
