Anthony Davis is reportedly going to take some time before making a decision on his future.

Anthony Davis became a champion with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 and is a main reason why the team will be favorites to win it all again in 2021. However, he still needs a new contract.

Davis will be on the market when free agency begins Friday evening. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has eased any worries Lakers fans may have by saying it is expected the two sides will indeed come together on a new deal. The NBA insider also clarifies by saying it may take some time for a deal to get done.

Woj explains how Davis has several options and is not expected to sign a deal right away. He may also want to see what other offers come his way around the NBA simply out of curiosity.

The option with the most money would be a five-year deal. However, it is possible Davis wants more flexibility. LeBron James is under contract this season and has a player option in 2021-22. He may decide to be done for good or continue his career elsewhere. Anything is possible with him and a two-year deal for Davis ensures he could leave if James does following the 2021-22 season.

Davis averaged nearly 28 points per game in the postseason and made the Lakers practically unstoppable with James already leading the show. The good news for Lakers fans is that him waiting doesn’t seem to be an indication of him leaving. He is just taking the holiday to consider all his options and should have a deal in place before training camp opens up in December.

The offseason timeline is much shorter in 2020 and what could have been a multi-week wait may just end up being one week so Davis can get back with his team for the start of the new season.
