Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers made Packers history on Sunday night
Welcome to the record books, Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers…again.
There’s no denying that the Green Bay Packers will be a tough out this NFC postseason. Aaron Rodgers is the league MVP while his draft class of misfits didn’t matter in 2020.
Everyone doubted the Packers’ success due to the fact they drafted Rodgers’ replacement instead of building around him. The reality is, they don’t have to at all. The weapons surrounding him are good enough to get by.
The reasoning? Davante Adams is surging into the No.1 receiver conversation. And on Sunday, he and Rodgers set another record on the way to Green Bay history.
The Packers clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with a 40-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Adams finished the night with 11 catches for 142 yards and three touchdowns. Rodgers and Adams now have combined for 489 completions all-time.
That’s the most of a Packers quarterback-wide receiver combination.
Name a better duo in the NFL
At one point, Rodgers’ arsenal was considered a top-three unit in the NFL. Jordy Nelson was Mr. Consistent, Randall Cobb won multiple battles in the slot and Greg Jennings loved to stretch the field.
Adams was lost in the crowd when first drafted out of Fresno State. Instead of looking for another option, he looked to correct his flaws. Now, he’s a member of the Packers’ history books.
Thanks to another double-digit reception night, Adams now has 109 catches for 1,328 yards and 17 touchdowns. Those numbers put him in the top three of every receiving category entering the final week of the season.
With production like that, do you even need another weapon outside of him?
The Packers will control the path to Tampa Bay and grab the bye to rest up. If defenses are smart, they’ll be double-covering Adams for all 60 minutes.
Even that might not be enough.
