Josh McDaniels has ridiculous quote on head coaching potential after poor 2020
By Mike Luciano
Josh McDaniels is delirious if he thinks he can become a head coach in 2021.
While New England Patriots fans have justifiably taken out their anger on quarterback Cam Newton, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has come under fire. Why? For a lack of offensive pizzazz that has the Patriots near the bottom of the league in several important categories. Still, even after this disaster of a season, McDaniels thinks he could get a promotion.
McDaniels, who has served as New England’s offensive coordinator for the better part of the last decade, claims that he would be overjoyed if a team considered making him a head coach after the 2020 season.
Josh McDaniels has struggled to succeed with Cam Newton in 2021
While Newton has completed 65 percent of his passes and has totaled a ridiculous 12 rushing touchdowns, he has thrown just five passing touchdowns all season. While he has one of the league’s worst groups of skill position players. McDaniels lack of aggressiveness and creativity in the passing game is a big reason Newton has struggled this season.
As if his performance in 2020 wasn’t bad enough, teams have enough of a book on McDaniels to declare that he is not head coach material. From a subpar Denver Broncos tenure that was “highlighted” by using a first-round pick on Tim Tebow to leaving the Indianapolis Colts at the alter in 2018, it’s not hard to see why McDaniels’ name isn’t circulating in the rumor mill.
To make matters worse, John Fox immediately took Denver to the postseason after McDaniels left, all the while laying the foundation that enticed Peyton Manning to sign with them. Frank Reich might get Indianapolis to the postseason for the second time in three seasons in 2020, while McDaniels is struggling to get the ball in the red zone.
McDaniels used to have a reputation as one of the league’s best assistants, but even that is starting to be questioned after this substandard year. Any team taking a chance on him after 2020 would be truly mind-boggling.
