Oklahoma football fans taunt Florida with SEC chants during Cotton Bowl rout
Oklahoma fans mocked Florida during their Cotton Bowl blowout with loud chants of “S-E-C! S-E-C!” at AT&T Stadium.
If there’s one thing that makes college football fans outside of the southeast roll their eyes, it’s an “S-E-C-! S-E-C!” chant.
There are some exceptions though — the sarcastic kind.
With Oklahoma leading Florida 48-13 in the Cotton Bowl, Sooner fans piled on with a teasing chant of their own.
If you’re going to dig the knife in, you could hardly pick something better. Though Spencer Rattler and Oklahoma fans in the stands doing a mocking gator chop is up there too.
Oklahoma football fans had reason to be testy with Florida
Oklahoma’s Cotton Bowl triumph was spiced up by some pregame talk from the Gators. A Florida linebacker had said the Sooners weren’t SEC-level. They proved otherwise by jumping out to a 17-0 lead then ripping off 38 unanswered points after Florida pulled back close.
It was a domination that warranted some playful trash talk on Oklahoma’s side of things.
To be fair, Florida was not at its best. The Gators were missing key starters, including stellar tight end Kyle Pitts, three wide receivers and four defenders. It didn’t help matters when Kyle Trask threw three interceptions in the opening quarter.
Oklahoma was favored in the game by a touchdown thanks to Florida’s missing pieces but also their strong finish to the campaign. After opening the year 1-2, the Sooners fought back to secure the Big 12 title with a revenge victory over Iowa State.
On Wednesday night, Rattler tossed three touchdowns while running back Rhamondre Stevenson had 186 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Marcus Majors added 110 yards and a touchdown rushing as Florida struggled to contain Oklahoma’s ground attack.
