3 players the Tennessee Titans should target in the 2021 NFL Draft
Everything can be traced back in a circle with the Titans defense. The team couldn’t pressure the quarterback all season. They managed to tally 19 total sacks on the year. Since they couldn’t pressure the quarterback, teams were able to keep drives alive on third down. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Harold Landry tallied a team-high 5.5 sacks while defensive end Jeffery Simmons contributed some regular pressures as well. Outside of those two, everyone else should be replaceable this offseason for the defensive front seven. And on the edge alone, that many sacks isn’t enough to give Landry a lucrative deal heading into a contract year.
Joseph Ossai plays the role that Jadeveon Clowney was expected to develop into, but he’s younger and cheaper. At Texas, he’d line up in a three-point stance and add pressure off the edge. Ossai also would blitz from standing up, causing a mismatch for tackles slow off the snap.
The Longhorn only managed 5.5 sacks on the season, but it was the highest on the team. Adding that kind of talent in the crowded AFC South could be the difference from making the playoffs or sitting a home. Ossai needs to be circled multiple times on the Titans draft board headed to the NFL combine.
