Two weeks away from the upcoming Royal Rumble and another edition of Monday Night Raw pushed stories forward heading into the first PPV of 2021.

Monday Night Raw was off to the proverbial hot start as everyone wanted to know what happened to Randy Orton after he took a fireball to the face from Alexa Bliss. Not only was this on the card, but Bliss had a match set up against Asuka, and Bill Goldberg was to make an appearance on the Dirt Sheet.

Charlotte Flair was out to open the night in a singles match against Peyton Royce. Flair did not even get to the ring before Royce jumped her from behind. When the ladies were finally in the ring together the brawl continued with Flair pummeling Royce in the corner. The fight continued outside the ring where Flair was in control until she chopped the steel post by accident.

Royce had her moments but that brought out Ric Flair to strut his way down the aisle with Lacey Evans as well. Royce almost capitalized on the moment, but Charlotte was able to kick out of the pinfall. Royce continued to fight back and had Flair in bad predicaments multiple times in the match. Royce injured her knee and Charlotte focused on that joint attacking it relentlessly until getting her to submit in the Figure-Eight.

Xavier Woods was out next to take on Mace of RETRIBUTION. Woods was out by himself as Kofi Kingston is still on the shelf due to a broken jaw.

Woods attempted to use his quickness to catch Mace off guard, but it resulted in him eating a chokeslam in the center of the ring. Woods attempted to fight back every time Mace had his grip on him, which worked until Ali got the group in order. That distraction helped Mace get in control and flatten Woods in the middle of the ring to get the victory.

Shayna Baszler and Mandy Rose had a singles match of their own on Monday. Rose attempted to grapple early in the match which Baszler responded to her with some stiff shots. Baszler continued to pick Rose apart but almost cost herself the match when she started arguing with Dana Brooke. Rose had some moments, but once Baszler went back to twisting Rose’s joints it was a matter of time before the former NXT champion forced her to submit.

Ricochet and AJ Styles were up next in a one-on-one match. This match was every bit as fast-paced as one would expect. They would exchange counter after counter, and it ended up with Ricochet standing in the ring by himself after knocking Styles to the outside. He tried to launch himself onto Styles but Omos caught him, dropping Ricochet with a thud to the floor.

That gave Styles the space to take control of the match, finally grounding Ricochet, at least for the moment. Both men continued to pour it on, but neither was able to get the pinfall they needed. Styles went outside to set up the Phenomenal Forearm, but Ricochet countered it with the Recoil. The finish came with Styles catching Ricochet from outside the ring, bouncing him off the top rope and into the Styles Clash for the win.

The Hurt Business was up next for six-man action against Matt Riddle and the Lucha House Party. Cedric Alexander got his team off to a great start but was still dealing with the issues bubbling in their own team. Shelton Benjamin was finally able to get into the ring and started to abuse Lince Dorado until tagging out to Bobby Lashley. Even though they were winning the match, the Hurt Business almost broke out into a full-on fight amongst themselves.

They were able to get back on the same page to an extent, but that did not stop their opponents from fighting back. Riddle got into the ring and looked to take over for his team, which is exactly what he did. Benjamin was able to swing things back in their way, but the arguing continued until Lashley tagged himself back in and put the finish on Gran Metalik for the win.

Jeff Hardy continued his battles with Jaxson Ryker and Elias. This time it was Ryker with another singles match with Hardy and Ryker jumped on Hardy from the start. Ryker’s power game came out of the gate and he did a solid job of keeping Hardy grounded. Even after Hardy attempted some flurries of offense, Ryker was right back on top of him. The finish was yet another disqualification as the feud continues.

The main event of the evening was a match between Asuka and Alexa Bliss. Alexa went to her typical joking style throughout the match while Asuka continued to try to take her head off with kicks and punches. The match was back and forth early until the lights went down midway, turning the place to darkness.

When the lights came back up, Asuka and Alexa were both still in the ring, but Alexa’s playful looks were completely gone. Alexa turned things around and continued to layout Asuka multiple times. Asuka fought back but ended up eating a pin clean after Alexa landed Sister Abigail for the victory.
