The Buffalo Bills quarterback will be without his father in the stands on Sunday night.

Josh Allen will be playing in the biggest game of his life. After finishing 13-3 in the AFC, the Buffalo Bills are one game away from returning to the Super Bowl. All they’ll have to do is get past the Kansas City Chiefs.

Unfortunately, Allen will be playing in Arrowhead Stadium without one of his biggest supporters ready to watch him bring glory to Orchard Park.

According to a Los Angeles Times feature on Allen, his father, Joel won’t be in attendance for the conference title game as he recovers from a battle with COVID-19. Joel recently was diagnosed with a case of pneumonia that landed him in the hospital.

Allen’s parents are easily his biggest supporters

Although it’s been a memorable year for Allen as the NFL’s breakout quarterback, it’s also been a sad one behind the scenes.  Earlier this season, Allen lost his grandmother, Patricia, just before his game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Bills fans, as kind as they have proven to be,  piled up the cash in increments of 17. Thousands donated over $1 million to Oishei Children’s Hospital, a hospital in the Buffalo area, as a tribute in her honor.

Despite multiple serious family situations surrounding Allen over the last year, the third-year pro has been able to persevere and put together an MVP caliber year. Now, he’s on the brink of a Super Bowl berth and the first conference title since 1993.

While he won’t have his father in Kansas City rooting him on with the rest of his family, Allen will know his dad is there in spirit. Now, all he’ll need to do is play his best 60 minutes so the father can see his son play in Tampa Bay for Super Bowl LV.
