Steelers: Please leave JuJu Smith-Schuster alone on vacation
By Mark Powell
The free agent wide receiver appreciates the attention, but would rather enjoy himself away from the limelight.
Smith-Schuster is among the top-tier free agent wide receivers available this offseason. With that comes plenty of interest from not just Pittsburgh Steelers supporters, but fans from around the NFL that want him to join their team. JuJu is almost always active on social media, even when he’s telling fans to let him be, even just for a moment.
Seems like a fair request. Football fans are crazy, though, and this will either be spun into a negative or they’ll disregard it altogether.
Smith-Schuster had a controversial end to the Steelers season
Ironically enough, it’s Smith-Schuster’s social media usage that got him in trouble with opposing teams towards the end of the Steelers 2020 collapse. JuJu is quite active on TikTok, and would record short video messages to his fans while on the road. In general, that seems harmless, except when you take into account that these dances took place on the opposing team’s logo. That’s frowned upon, even in the modern NFL, as a sign of disrespect, and when the Steelers aren’t winning, it’s bound to come back and bite Smith-Schuster.
Pittsburgh media didn’t take kindly to this habit during the Steelers untimely demise, and when Pittsburgh lost to the Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card round despite Smith-Schuster’s admirable performance, they quickly turned on the pending free agent.
So, with all of this in mind, let’s give Smith-Schuster a break from the drama, if only for a few weeks while he detoxes from the drama of last season. The man clearly deserves it.
