Clemson football: Dabo Swinney hasn’t recovered from getting their butt kicked by Ohio State
Dabo Swinney still isn’t over the loss Clemson took to Ohio State in the national football championship playoff.
It’s been almost a month since Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide cruised to their fifth college football national championship win in the last decade. Among the most disappointed in the end result of the season is Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney. The Tigers failed to win the championship in back-to-back years, coming up short to LSU two seasons ago and then getting blown out by Ohio State in this year’s semifinals.
Swinney talked a ton of trash leading up to the matchup with the Buckeyes, but his team didn’t hold up their end of the bargain. Swinney ranked the Buckeyes No. 11 in his final Coaches Poll of the season. He felt that Ohio State didn’t play enough games to be ranked in the top 10. The Buckeyes proceeded to show Swinney where they should’ve been ranked with a 49-28 blowout of the Tigers, pushing them into a National Championship Game date with Alabama.

Despite having to eat a slice of humble pie after the embarrassing semifinal loss, Swinney is still sick about how everything played out. “I learned that we got our butts kicked,” said Swinney on ACC Radio on Sirius XM when asked what he learned from the experience. “We’ve been pretty consistent, despite how it ended, but we learn from it, move on, flush it, start over and get ready to charge up the mountain next year.”
Swinney and his program are right behind the Crimson Tide in the number of national championships won in the past decade. With Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields making the leap to the NFL, both programs will be looking to retool to get back into contention.
