2021 NFL Draft: New York Jets 7-round mock
The Jets have a ton of draft picks to accelerate their rebuild.
This should be a busy offseason for the New York Jets, who hired a new coach to replace Adam Gase and have a ton of cap space to improve their roster. GM Joe Douglas will also be heavily invested in the NFL Draft, where the Jets have a ton of picks to try and rebuild their roster.
The Jets saw Douglas produce a strong draft class last year, adding left tackle Mekhi Becton and wide receiver Denzel Mims as building blocks for their offense. With two extra picks in the first three rounds courtesy of the Jamal Adams trade the Jets could look to do something crazy, like pull a big trade to shake up the offseason. Assuming Douglas decides to keep his picks, let’s take a look at some of the players the Jets could land in the draft.
New York Jets mock draft: First Round
No. 2: QB Justin Fields, Ohio State
The Jets wound up with the second-overall pick, costing themselves a chance to draft Trevor Lawrence but they should still have a good choice of quarterbacks. The selection should come down to Fields or BYU’s Zach Wilson, but Douglas will likely lean towards Fields based on some of his elite physical traits.
Douglas made a point last season to draft players with elite physical skills, such as Becton and Mims, and Fields has all of the unteachable physical tools to excel at the NFL level. Landing Fields would give New York the flexibility to restart with a new franchise quarterback and move Sam Darnold for more draft capital.
No. 23: G Wyatt Davis, Ohio State
The Jets got this pick from Seattle and can use it to take Fields’ teammate from Ohio State. Davis is one of the best interior line prospects in the class and the Jets are looking to continue rebuilding their offensive line, a process that started last year with the drafting of Becton as well as free agent signings like Connor McGovern and George Fant.
Douglas would love to be able to slot Davis right next to Becton on the left side of the offensive line, allowing the Jets to continue building a wall to protect Fields. Revamping the team’s offensive line remains one of Douglas’ top priorities so expending another first-round pick on it is a smart choice.
