Losing Super Bowl 55 doesn’t drastically change the long-term trajectory of the Chiefs. Kansas City is still positioned to win Super Bowl 56.

Chiefs fans can’t be blamed for being down in the dumps after their team’s dispiriting 31-9 loss to the Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55. Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City’s vaunted offense looked lost against a ferocious Tampa Bay front. The team’s secondary looked completely helpless against Tom Brady and the plethora of talented receivers employed by the Buccaneers.

It was still just one game. The loss shouldn’t do much to damage the Chiefs’ long-term trajectory as a potential NFL dynasty. In fact, Kansas City will still enter the 2021 regular season as the firm betting favorite to win Super Bowl 56. Here are three reasons why Mahomes and company should be backed to lift another Lombardi Trophy in approximately 12 months time.

3. Andy Reid will evolve

Reid deserves some measure of criticism for his inability to make quality adjustments on the fly in the loss to the Buccaneers. That’s never been his forte as a head coach.

The veteran offensive guru does excel when he’s given time to work in his figurative lab to generate new concepts that can torment opposing defenses. It’s a safe bet that he will spend a lot of hours laboring over the inept film of Kansas City’s offense in the Super Bowl.

That will make him a dangerous animal for the rest of the NFL to deal with in 2021. Count on Reid to come out with some new tweaks to the Chiefs’ offense that will catch the rest of the league by surprise. Those subtle adjustments will help overcome the obstacles Tampa Bay placed in front of them in the Super Bowl. They could also be key in Kansas City’s efforts to win another title next season.
