Mike Evans willing to take pay cut to keep Buccaneers together
After his incredible Super Bowl 55 win, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans says he’s willing to take a pay cut to keep the squad together.
Mike Evans is already thinking about running it back.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 last night in Super Bowl 55, making them the first NFL team to win the big game on their home field at Raymond James Stadium. This was the first championship for the Bucs since the 2002-2003 season and their fans are still partying like there’s no pandemic. Tom Brady, who won his seventh ring in the win, has already announced that he’ll be back for more next season. So what does that mean for the chance of a repeat?
Well, Evans says he’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep the team together. Bucs head coach Bruce Arians tell Peter King Evans is even willing to take less money to keep players around. Brady has been known to take pay cuts to help the New England Patriots build rosters around him in the past. It looks like Evans is taking a page out of TB12’s book.

Evans, who has never had less than 1,000 receiving yards in a season since entering the league, certainly knows how valuable he is. He’s willing to sacrifice some cash to keep winning.
Evans didn’t have to contribute to the box score much to have an effect on Super Bowl 55. He finished the big game just targeted once by Brady and with only one reception for 31 yards. He was, however, the receiver in question on a controversial penalty that set the Buccaneers up for an Antonio Brown touchdown. Brady was also looking for Evans in the endzone when Tyrann Mathieu was called for interference.
As unfortunate as those calls were for Chiefs fans, they were the opposite for Bucs fans. Tampa has to love what they’re hearing from their young stars and their old ones about the future. With Brady back and Evans willing to take a cut, it’s no doubt that they’re looking to run it back right away.
