Later this week, star Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will undergo surgery for what’s being called a significant toe injury.

No one will ever be able to question Patrick Mahomes’ toughness. Despite basically hobbling across the field in the Super Bowl, the stud signal-caller played through all of his pain and did everything he could to try and lead his team to victory.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, Tampa Bay’s defense was just too much to handle, as the Bucs went on to cruise to an easy win. For Mahomes, his focus will now be to make sure he’s fully healthy for the 2021 campaign. That means offseason surgery on his toe injury, which is set to come on Wednesday.

Patrick Mahomes is ready for surgery on his significant toe injury

Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Mahomes’ injury indeed is a significant one, as the former Super Bowl MVP has been dealing with the ‘turf toe’ for several weeks. Turf toe can be a tricky injury, as we’ve seen countless NFL players bothered by it over the years.

With Mahomes known for his mobility, this is something he and the Chiefs want to get corrected and fixed right away. The good news here is that while Mahomes’ rehab will take several months, he’s not at risk whatsoever of missing any action for the 2021 season. At the same time, he won’t be able to practice or workout with his teammates this spring.

After signing Mahomes’ to a record-breaking $502 million deal, Kansas City had hopes of repeating as Super Bowl champs this winter. Tampa Bay put the kibosh on those dreams, but the Chiefs figure to be in the hunt to take home the Lombardi Trophy next season. In order for that to happen, they’ll no doubt need Mahomes to be at 100 percent.
