The Seattle Seahawks need to find some protection for quarterback Russell Wilson. Here are three offensive linemen the team should target this offseason.

It seems like all of the talk and drama in the NFL surrounds quarterbacks. We have heard about Deshaun Watson’s unhappiness with the Houston Texans and Matthew Stafford wanted to part ways with the Detroit Lions. Now, all eyes are on the Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson.

On the morning of Super Bowl 55, reports indicated that teams were calling the Seahawks about a potential Wilson trade. Then in the ensuing days, talk from Wilson’s camp is that the quarterback is tired of getting hit and wants Seattle to improve the offensive line. That is understandable, as Wilson has been sacked a total of 394 times in the past nine seasons.

If the Seahawks want to avoid the worst case scenario, which is trade Wilson, they have to appease him in some way. That begins by helping Wilson stay upright in the pocket and avoid running for his life on a game-to-game basis.

The Seahawks are in need of guard help with Mike Iupati and Chance Warmack hitting the open market. With very little cap space, Seattle will find it difficult to compete in a bidding war for the likes of Joe Thuney or Brandon Scherff. But, they could get one in the second-round in Trey Smith.

Back in 2017, Smith was a five-star recruit and the highest-coveted prospect in the entire 2017 class. He originally started his collegiate career at left tackle, but made the switch to left guard. Even with the position change, Smith still performed at a high-level. In his final two years at Tennessee, Smith allowed just one sack and was named to the All-SEC First Team twice.

Many teams will be intrigued by Smith’s potential at the NFL level. Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 330-pounds, Smith is one of the more powerful offensive lineman in the 2021 class. Plus, he can thrive in both passing and rushing situations. Wilson will love Smith to block the interior of the offensive line, especially since he plays Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald twice a year, along with Javon Kinlaw of the San Francisco 49ers. If Smith falls to the Seahawks, it is hard to envision them passing up on him.
