Allen Robinson doesn’t sound happy with the Chicago Bears

Allen Robinson and the Chicago Bears aren’t on the same page entering the offseason. 

Every player in the NFL wants to be treated as if they’re a top talent. Allen Robinson has earned that right with the Chicago Bears.

The 28-year-old wideout will be entering his second stint with free agency. Coming off a season where he posted 111 catches and 1,250 receiving yards, one would imagine he’d be a top name on the market for any team looking to upgrade at receiver.

Unfortunately, he might be available only by trade should the Bears franchise tag him. Then again, why would Chicago not want him on their roster for the foreseeable future? It’s all a bit complex when everything is boiled down.

However, in a recent interview with Tyler Dunne of Go Long, Robinson’s relationship with the Bears is more muddied than any fan expected.

“My personal opinion, if something could possibly work? Yes,” Robinson told Dunne. “I’m not opposed to being back in Chicago by any means. I’ve even expressed that over the last couple of years — wanting to be the all-time leading receiver in Chicago which, I believe, I’m under 2,000 yards away from that.”

Should Robinson demand a trade if tagged?

The Bears enter 2021 in a similar spot as 2020. Yes, their resurgence under Mitchell Trubisky hoisted them to a second postseason appearance under head coach Matt Nagy, but Chicago never faced more than a bottom-10 defense to close out the season minus the finale against Green Bay.

Will Trubisky be back for another season? Will the Bears trade up for a new quarterback in April’s NFL Draft? Ryan Pace will need to decide on what to do in the coming weeks.

That will likely factor into Robinson’s status with the team.

“With all that being said, unfortunately we’ve come to what seems to be a fork in the road. But not even a fork,” Robinson said. “We haven’t even been given a viable option to be able to do those things that we want to do without sacrificing a ridiculous amount pretty much for the rest of my career.”

Should he be tagged, Robinson could demand a trade. It would benefit both parties since Chicago would admit their rebuild is on the horizon while another franchise would grab an established top 20 target in the NFL.

Robinson’s fork in the road could be more of a knife in the relationship. If there isn’t some reconciliation, expect his departure from the Windy City to be around the corner.
