3 free agents the Giants should avoid in the 2021 this offseason

The New York Giants will be looking for upgrades, but these three names should not be on the radar

Give credit to Joe Judge and the New York Football Giants. They didn’t quit until the very end.

The Giants came one game shy of reaching the NFL Playoffs for the first time since 2016. New York still is trying to recapture their 2011 glory and head back to the top the NFC East. Instead it looks as if they’re still rebuilding.

Daniel Jones might be the man right for the job. He also is entering a pivotal year this offseason. As it currently stands, New York sit just $1 million under the current salary cap floor with plenty of needs on both sides. Sure, they’ll free up some cap space with the release of talent, but will that be enough to contend?

Dave Gettleman needs to be smart with his money. Then again, New York is know for offering lucrative deals because of the market. If these three names are on the radar of New York, they need to be off it before ink touches paper and it becomes too late.

Which free agents should the Giants avoid this offseason?

TE . Hunter Henry . 3. player. 13. Scouting Report. Los Angeles Chargers. Pick Analysis

The Giants need to upgrade their passing attack with Jones entering Year 3. Evan Engram has proven to be a solid receiving option, but does he fit Jason Garrett’s system? The former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator loved using well-rounded tight ends.

Engram is best used as a flex option. He finished last season as the most targeted receiver for New York and finished with eight drops to go with 63 catches for 654 yards and one touchdown. That was off 102 targets.

New York might want to follow a similar plan to that of the Cleveland Browns and grab playmakers regardless of the position. Hunter Henry not only is one of the best pass-catchers in the class, he’s one of the best free agents as well. The Chargers star also is well-rounded, finding success as an in-line blocker as well.

The Chargers shouldn’t let Henry walk without at least on offer, but a change of scenery in the NFL is accustomed. New York found success with Engram last season and could better use that money on a straight blocking tight end and go after a receiver.

Henry will be tempting, but the Giants need help on the outside rather than inside.
