According to reports from ESPN’s Adam, The Washington Football Team and Fitzpatrick have agreed to a one-year deal this offseason. The terms will have WFT bringing him in on a one-year deal worth $10 million that could grow to $12 million with incentives.

Best of all? Fitzpatrick is expected to contend for the starting job with Taylor Heinicke entering next season. And while that might sound crazy to some, It only means the Fitzmagic will live on for another year.
Will Washington follow a similar suit to Miami last season?
Fitzpatrick, 38, will be entering his 17th NFL season in D.C. Currently, he’s the only quarterback in NFL history to start and throw touchdowns with eight different NFL franchises. Should he win the starting job or at least play one game as a starter, make that number nine.
One reason Washington could be bringing in the veteran quarterback is there’s a chance they’ll be drafting their next franchise signal-caller. Recently, both WFT’s Offensive Coordinator Scott Turner and new general manager Martin Mayhew attended North Dakota State’s Pro Day to watch prospect Trey Lance.
Washington currently holds the 19th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Fitzpatrick last year played the role of both starter and teacher for the Miami Dolphins. He started seven games, completing 68.5 percent of his passes and throwing for 13 touchdowns against eight interceptions. He also help with the development of rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa went 6-3 as the starter for the Dolphins. Miami finished 10-6 on the season, missing the AFC playoffs by one game.
For his career, Fitzpatrick ranks 10th among active quarterbacks with 34,977 passing yards, 223 touchdowns with 169 interceptions. That number should expand after the 2021 season.
Should Washington be willing to move up for a quarterback, they will have the pleasure to learn under Fitzpatrick. If not, at least Washington fans will keep the magic alive for one more season.
