Bears were all-in on Kenny Golladay despite having Allen Robinson

Even though the Chicago Bears already have a great wide receiver in Allen Robinson, that did not stop them from being interested in Kenny Golladay during his free agency.

The Chicago Bears used the franchise tag on Allen Robinson earlier in the league year. While bringing in former Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay for a visit could have been seen as a motivating tactic for Robinson, that apparently was not the case.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the Bears were very serious about signing Kenny Golladay in his free agency. They were willing to kick money further down the line to bring him to the Windy City. However, he was keen on the New York Giants‘ coaching staff, which led to him signing with the G-Men in his NFL free agency. Well, at least the Bears tried to make a splash…

Could Allen Robinson and Kenny Golladay have elevated Andy Dalton in Chicago?

When we think of the Bears as an NFL franchise, we think of the Monsters of the Midway, great running backs like Walter Payton and that legendary SNL skit. What we do not think of when it comes to the Bears is brilliance in the passing game. Outside of a few quality years with Jay Cutler, it has been a lot of Rex Grossmans since Sid Luckman last starred at quarterback for the Bears.

With Mitchell Trubisky leaving for the Buffalo Bills in free agency, it means it is The Andy Dalton Show at Soldier Field. While he had a great nine-year run with the Cincinnati Bengals, Dalton is little more than a stop-gap quarterback at this point of his NFL career. While he could develop quite the rapport with Robinson, we will never know if he could have had one with Golladay.

It seems strange, but yes, the Bears were very interested in signing Golladay in his free agency.
