After four years with the Chicago Bears, Mitchell Trubisky has signed with the Buffalo Bills.

Mitchell Trubisky is Josh Allen’s new backup for the 2021 Buffalo Bills.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Trubisky will go to the Bills on a one-year deal to serve as Allen’s backup and the team is letting Matt Barkley walk. Trubisky was the former No. 2 overall pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2017 NFL Draft. While the Bears made it to the playoffs twice in his four years with the team, he was never consistent enough as a passer to truly elevate the Chicago offense. He was benched for Nick Foles before ultimately regaining his starting job in large part because of the failures of Foles last year in Chicago.

The Buffalo Bills are a fantastic landing spot for Mitchell Trubisky in free agency

While Trubisky gets a fresh start after busting in Chicago. The good news is he will back up an NFL MVP candidate, as well as learn from one of the best offensive minds in football in Brian Daboll. Look for this rehabilitation year for Trubisky to do a world of good for him in the second act of his NFL career before embarking on free agency next year where he’ll look for a chance to start.

Trubisky may never be what Bears general manager Ryan Pace thought he could be coming out of North Carolina. However, he can still have a viable NFL career as a high-end back or a stop-gap starter. Trubisky is a good locker room guy, a hard worker and a great teammate. While it did not work out for him in Chicago, most quarterbacks who played for the Bears can say the same thing.

Trubisky lands in a great spot by signing with the Super Bowl-contending Bills in his free agency.
