Seahawks bringing back Cedric Ogbuehi

The Seattle Seahawks are bringing back a familiar face to bolster their offensive line next season.

The Seattle Seahawks offensive line has been the topic of the new league year. Russell Wilson has publicly complained about being sacked 394 times through his first nine seasons in the NFL, leading to his agent leaking four potential teams he’d accept a trade to. The team did make an addition this new league year in former Las Vegas Raiders guard Gabe Jackson and Wilson does appear to be stoked about the Seahawks’ transactions. On Wednesday, they brought back a familiar face.

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, the Seahawks are bringing back offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi after he spent last season with them.

Ogbuehi, a former 2015 first-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals, joined the Seahawks last year on a one-season pact, serving as the teams’ backup tackle. Through eight games (four starts), Ogbuehi committed two tackles and surrendered one sack on 277 offensive snaps, per Pro Football Focus.

As mentioned earlier, the Seahawks only made one lone change to the offensive line. Luckily for them, the Raiders shockingly decided to part ways with Jackson despite him being one of the better guards in the league. The Seahawks had a massive void on the interior of the offensive line after Mike Iupati announced his retirement from the NFL. Other than that, the Seahawks have the same offensive line unit as last season in Duane Brown, Damien Lewis, Brandon Shell and Ethan Pocic.

The Seahawks are obviously confident in Ogbuehi’s abilities if they opted to re-sign him. But one has to wonder if the moves Seattle has made on the offensive line will be enough to help Wilson, especially when he faces the likes of Aaron Donald, J.J. Watt, Nick Bosa and Chandler Jones twice a year.
