The official Twitter account of March Madness used a meme from The Office to perfectly explain why the Big Ten is elite and it makes perfect sense.

Ever since the NCAA Tournament began, the Big Ten conference was the brunt of all jokes on social media following their ineptitude in the tournament. Michigan State was bounced out of the First Four Round by UCLA, Ohio State got sent home by No. 15 Oral Roberts in the Round of 64 and No. 1 Illinois was defeated by the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers in the Round of 32. That is not even all of the heartbreak the conference has undergone this month.

But if there is one savior for the Big Ten, it is the Michigan Wolverines.

On Sunday, the No. 1 Wolverines handily defeated the No. 4 Florida State Seminoles 76-58 to advance to the Elite Eight. The official Twitter account of the NCAA March Madness Tournament posted a meme from the hit television show The Office to perfectly explain why the Big Ten conference is still elite.

Michigan advances to the Elite Eight following decisive win over Florida State

The Big Ten had nine representatives in the NCAA Tournament, with many expecting there would be at least a couple to make deep runs in the bracket. That failed to transpire. Michigan State left before the tourney officially started. Ohio State and Purdue were eliminated in the Round of 64, while Rutgers, Maryland, Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois were sent home in the Round of 32.

Michigan extended their stay in Indianapolis thanks to a double-double from guard Franz Wagner (13 points, 10 rebounds) and 14-point performances from forward Brandon Johns Jr. and center Hunter Dickinson.

With Michigan giving the Big Ten elite status, the Wolverines will now face the winner of Sunday night’s game between No. 2 Alabama and No. 11 UCLA on Tuesday.

So maybe the Big Ten wasn’t elite in the NCAA Tournament but Michigan basketball sure is.
