With the NFL Draft coming later this month, will the San Francisco 49ers end up taking Mac Jones with the No. 3 overall pick?

The San Francisco 49ers made countless headlines recently when they pulled the stunning move to pull off the blockbuster trade with the Miami Dolphins to move up to the No. 3 slot of the NFL Draft. As soon as that happened, it basically told you that San Francisco is ready to look for a quarterback of the future.

Jimmy Garoppolo simply hasn’t been the answer the front office was looking for. Could Mac Jones end up being that guy, though? According to insider Dan Patrick, his sources are telling him there’s a house divided when it comes to the 49ers and a Jones selection.

The San Francisco 49ers could end up passing on Mac Jones at No. 3 overall for Trey Lance

Per Patrick’s sources, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan loves Jones and wants the team to take him at No. 3. However, there are multiple guys inside the 49ers building that are hoping to change his mind into thinking that Trey Lance would be the wiser decision.

So, the San Francisco head coach wants Jones, but members of the personnel department think Lance should be the selection instead? That’s quite the issue here. With that said, it’s becoming more and more clear that San Francisco is focused on the two signal-callers entering the draft.

Again, Garappolo just isn’t the long-term answer here. While he’s expected to return to the team next season as the starter, it surely feels like he’s on borrowed time leading the team’s offense. Sooner or later, someone else will line up behind center. Will it be Jones or Lance? We’ll have our answer in late April.
