ESPN’s Adam Schefter pranks Mina Kimes on live TV with fake Russell Wilson trade
By Scott Rogust
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter decided to prank colleague and noted Seattle Seahawks fan Mina Kimes with a fake Russell Wilson trade.
April Fools’ Day is arguably the worst day of the year if you work in sports media or are a sports fan. You never know if an athlete or media personality is trolling you with a fake signing or trade. When it comes to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, he may be the new king of April Fools’ Day pranks.
On Thursday, Schefter tweeted out that his colleague (and noted Seattle Seahawks fan) Mina Kimes was not going to be happy with the news he was about to break about quarterback Russell Wilson. Kimes happened to be live on ESPN’s show Highly Questionable and got into a text exchange with the insider. Eventually, Schefter called in to reveal the news.
That news was that the Seahawks were … getting ready for the NFL Draft.

Kimes was obviously not pleased about this prank, even jokingly threatening to report Schefter to human resources. But hey, the good news is Wilson is still the starting quarterback for the Seahawks! It’s an April Fools’ Day miracle!
Every Seahawks fan has been tense throughout this offseason with reports indicating that Wilson was not happy with the team, specifically for not getting the proper protection at the line of scrimmage. That led to Wilson’s agent, Mark Rodgers, revealing to Schefter that Wilson would accept a trade to one of the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints or Las Vegas Raiders if both sides were to agree that parting ways was the best course of action.
All signs have pointed to Wilson remaining in Seattle for the 2021 season. The signal caller helped with that by tweeting out his support of the signings of running back Chris Carson and defensive linemen Carlos Dunlap, Benson Mayowa and Kerry Hyder Jr. Oh, and he was ecstatic about the news of wide receiver Tyler Lockett signing a four-year, $69 million contract extension. That does not sound like a quarterback looking to get out of Seattle.
While it was not the breaking news that Kimes was expecting, it is good to know that the Seahawks are preparing for the NFL Draft, where they currently hold three picks (56th, 129th and 250th overall) as of this writing.
