Nikola Jokic is officially the most prolific passing center in NBA history

Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic passed Wilt Chamberlain for the most double-digit assist games by a center, proving his incredible value.

Wilt Chamberlain’s NBA stats were insane. So Nikola Jokic should take extra pride in passing him.

On Sunday night, Jokic notched his 81st career game with 10 or more assists, taking over Chamberlain’s record for the most double-digit assist games by a center.

Just call him a point center.

Jokic led all players with 16 assists as the Denver Nuggets beat the Orlando Magic, 119-109.

While Jokic has always been a capable facilitator, he has taken it up a notch this year. Sunday was his 20th 10-plus assist game of the campaign. It wasn’t even his best assisting performance of the season. On Dec. 28, he put up 18 against Houston.

The center is now averaging a career-high 8.6 assists per game to go along with his career-best 26.3 points per game.

Jokic is actually fourth in the NBA in assists this year. He has more than Chris Paul.

When it comes to assists per game, the next-highest average for a center is Bam Adebayo’s 5.3, a full three shy of Jokic.

It’s just ridiculous for a center to deliver those kinds of numbers.

Of course, this isn’t new for Jokic. He’s led all NBA centers in assists every year since 2017.

The three-time All-Star is making a serious push for MVP consideration this season. He’s consistently great for the Nuggets, dominating at his position in unusual ways. The more he grows his assist record, the better a case he’ll have.

Denver will want to translate Jokic’s personal success into a playoff run. They currently sit fourth in the Western Conference. With Aaron Gordon on board, an MVP award might not be the only silverware the Nuggets look to claim by the end of the season.
