Chicago White Sox fans were irate when Cleveland Indians batter Roberto Perez spoiled Carlos Rodon’s bid for a perfect game by leaning into a pitch.

Carlos Rodon was so very close to a perfect game. Then Roberto Perez had to go out of his way to ruin it.

White Sox fans were none too pleased with Perez, who could have gotten out of the way of Rodon’s low pitch. Instead, he stood in and took a ball to the cleat. The walk ended Rodon’s perfect game bid in the cheapest of ways.

White Sox: Carlos Rodon still threw a no-hitter

The reaction on Twitter was fierce.

It was definitely disappointing to see Rodon lose the perfect game that way. Perez won’t live it down any time soon.

The good news for Rodon is he still managed to preserve his no-hitter. It’s the second no-hitter of the season in MLB and the first for Rodon, who had never been perfect through more than seven innings.

The celebration will be a bit bittersweet knowing just how close he came to history with a perfect game though.

Chicago won the game 8-0 while Rodon tossed seven strikeouts.
