Umps screw over Red Sox and eject Alex Cora after awful foul ball call (Video)

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora got tossed in Thursday’s game for arguing a blown call that was one of the worst you’ll see this season. 

In a huge early-season American League showdown, the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins danced on Thursday. With things tied late, leave it to the umpires to step in and completely change the energy of the showdown.

This happened with home-plate ump Jordan Baker somehow calling a foul ball on a swing and a miss by Minnesota’s Ryan Jeffers. As you might imagine, Boston skipper Alex Cora was furious with the call and he was ejected. When you see video of the play, you’ll understand why he was so upset.

Seriously, how could Baker have made this kind of a mistake? This is nowhere close to a foul ball. It should have been strike three. Instead, Jeffers lived to see another day at the dish, which is 100 percent unacceptable.

To make things worse for Boston and Cora, Minnesota went on to win the game in walk-off fashion. Just like that, not only did the Red Sox suffer a heartbreaking loss, but they also saw their nine-game winning streak come to a close as well.

This isn’t the first time in the past week that Boston has grown frustrated with a rough call. Recently, Xander Bogaerts blew a gasket after a terrible strike three was called on him. With the ball clearly outside, Bogaerts was still rung up and he flipped out with his reaction. The umps need to be better day in and day out. There’s no excuse for their recent run of bad decisions.
