Patrick Mahomes dominating his rehab like he’s playing the Raiders
By John Buhler
Patrick Mahomes is crushing his rehabilitation as if it were middling AFC West competition.
After having surgery to correct some turf toe, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is owning his rehab like it were the Denver Broncos, the Las Vegas Raiders or even the Los Angeles Chargers in AFC West play.
Mahomes believes he is ahead of schedule with his rehab. He thinks he will be able to participate in some team activities by the end of the offseason. Mahomes was photographed in a walking boot during a cute family photo with his daughter and fiancee on Easter Sunday. It may have caught some NFL fans by surprise, but Mahomes told Pat McAfee on Twitter it was no big deal.
Even though he is on the mend, Chiefs Kingdom should be thrilled with how his rehab is going.
The AFC West will keep running through Arrowhead because of Patrick Mahomes
Though the division does have a few interesting teams to keep an eye on, nobody is picking anybody outside of the Chiefs to win the AFC West next year who does not root for a rival team. Yes, Justin Herbert gives the Chargers a ton of upside and Derek Carr has played well under Jon Gruden in Las Vegas, but as long as Mahomes is upright, the Chiefs will win the division annually.
If there are any concerns regarding Mahomes’ recovery, it is that he has not a clean bill of health since winning NFL MVP. He dealt with ankle issues throughout the Super Bowl-winning campaign. Mahomes missed time with a frightening knee injury midseason. Regardless, Mahomes has too much talent and an ample amount of time on his side to keep being the NFL’s best quarterback.
Until proven otherwise, the AFC West is Mahomes and the Chiefs’ for the foreseeable future.
