Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was photographed on Easter Sunday while wearing a walking boot.

As Patrick Mahomes and his fiancee Brittany Matthews took a heart-melting picture with their beautiful infant daughter Sterling Skye Mahomes on Easter Sunday, you cannot help but wonder why the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was wearing a walking boot.

Matthews gave birth to her daughter shortly after Super Bowl 55 where he fiancé’s Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The happy couple just recently celebrated their ninth anniversary together and all seem to be right in the world for them in Kansas City. For as great as that first Easter as a family is, Chiefs Kingdom is collectively freaking out over the sight of the walking boot.

Why is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in a walking boot?

Knowing that a 17-game season schedule is going to take an even harder toll on his body, Mahomes underwent surgery to repair a torn plantar plate in his foot. Basically he had surgery to repair some turf toe. It is not that big of a deal, so much so that Mahomes quote tweeted Pat McAfee to say that every thing is fine on his end. We just forgot he was in a walking boot, y’all.

Mahomes had this surgery back in March, so he has been walking around in this walking boot of his for the better part of a month. However, this is not the first leg injury Mahomes had has in his NFL career up to this point. He dealt with ankle issues throughout much of the 2019 campaign. He also missed time with a knee injury that probably would have ended most players’ seasons.

As long as Mahomes continues to take care of his body, he should be able to play at a high level in the league into his mid-30s. That means at least 10 more years of championship-caliber quarterbacking out of the Chiefs’ superstar signal-caller. While Andy Reid may not be his coach as we approach 2030, Mahomes is not going to be playing for any other franchise any time soon.

While seeing the walking boot was a tad alarming for many of us, apparently, it is no big deal.
