Oscar De La Hoya admits he was intoxicated during his brief appearance on the broadcast team for Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren.

Oscar De La Hoya has regrets after being criticized for his recent commentary during Triller Fight Club’s recent event on Saturday night.

The famous retired boxer was part of the broadcast team that included rapper Snoop Dogg, comedian Pete Davidson, and others; with Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren as the featured main event. Fans and critics of De La Hoya alike both laughed and appeared annoyed at his unusual, at times incoherent commentary.

The 48-year-old said during an interview with DAZN (h/t MMA Fighting) that he might have crossed the line when it came to his analysis during the fights after fellow Triller commentator Ray Flores questioned whether or not De La Hoya might have been under the influence during the broadcast.

“I started having a couple of drinks, and then they told me, ‘Hey, why don’t you go and commentate?” De La Hoya said. “I got a little carried away and I apologize.”

De La Hoya also had plenty to say about the YouTuber turned Boxer Paul, who extended his record to an undefeated 3-0 after knocking out Askren in the first round of their bout.

“He has to just keep going,” De La Hoya said. “Keep the train going until you have a trainwreck with the very best.”

De La Hoya has been contemplating a return to the Boxing ring, including a potential matchup with ONE Championship lightweight and former UFC champion Eddie Alvarez. An opponent hasn’t announced just yet for the Boxing Hall of Famer, but De La Hoya has recently guaranteed that fans will be excited once an upcoming fight is publicized.

De La Hoya hasn’t competed since December of 2008 when he fell to Manny Pacquiao via a corner stoppage after 8 rounds. He is currently the head of Golden Boy Promotions, which has held events such as the trilogy fight between former UFC stars Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.
