The Packers seem inclined to end their relationship with Aaron Rodgers sooner rather than later, as they continue avoid adding weapons around him. They could change that by drafting a wide receiver this year, but history says that won’t be happening until at least the second round.

The Packers are automatically in an all-in window for as long as Rodgers is the quarterback. And with no indication they’ll extend his contract, that window might be narrowed to this year. Back-to-back trips to the NFC Championship Game are nice, but it’s time to reach another Super Bowl with Rodgers under center. Trading for Jones would give the Packers the best wide receiver duo in the league.

The Ravens have been a rumored suitor for Jones dating back to last season, and the clamoring for better weapons around Lamar Jackson remains. The trade of offensive tackle Orlando Brown to the Chiefs last week gave them a second late first-round pick, with No. 31 to go with their own at No. 27. That makes them an easy candidate to trade up in the first round, perhaps to get a wide receiver they covet.

But what things really ramp up as this week goes on, and Baltimore instead parts with one of those two first-rounders and a future first-rounder as the centerpieces of a deal to get Jones? The deal would of course still not be official in terms of Jones being a Raven until June 2, so the Falcons can still soften their cap hit, and maybe the Ravens turn the pick they’ll part with into a player Atlanta wants in the subsequent deal. Or maybe it’s more cut and dry, and the Ravens frame an offer independent of draft pick-to-player specifics.

If the Ravens are going to usurp the Chiefs, their offense has to be better. Trading for Jones is the big move to get that done.
