These five teams missed the mark with their first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The first round of the NFL Draft is in the books and there was plenty of drama. Whether it was trades for quarterbacks, a deal that affected three NFC East teams or jaw-dropping decisions, the draft had plenty of intrigue on its first night.

Scouting in this year’s class was difficult given the reality of working through a global pandemic, but most of the league’s teams were able to make picks that made sense. There were a few choices that are true headscratchers, however, so let’s take a look at the five worst picks from Round 1.

This whole day has been a mess for the Packers, who now have to navigate the potential landmine of Aaron Rodgers looking to get out of Green Bay. Taking a wide receiver to help Rodgers could have been a nice olive branch but the Packers couldn’t help themselves by taking yet another defensive player, slightly reaching to grab cornerback Eric Stokes out of Georgia.

There is no question that adding another corner was a need after Kevin King got torched in the NFC Championship Game but this is simply a case where the Packers didn’t read the room. Taking a receiver like Elijah Moore at least offered the potential to start mending fences with Rodgers while the Stokes pick simply increases his motivation to force his way out of town.
