Vikings fans aren’t happy at decision to trade down in NFL Draft
By Mark Powell
Trading down isn’t an awful decision for the Minnesota Vikings, but considering the Bears recent move to trade up for Justin Fields, some fans aren’t happy.
The Vikings dealt their first-round pick to the New York Jets, who traded up for the right to select USC guard Alijah Vera-Tucker to protect new quarterback Zach Wilson.
Wilson will surely be happy with this move, but Vikings fans can’t share that sentiment. Minnesota fans initially wanted to trade up for a cornerback — either Jaycee Horn or Patrick Surtain II. After missing out on those two cover-men, Minnesota could’ve flirted with a Kirk Cousins replacement in Justin Fields or Mac Jones. Jones, of course, was available in Minnesota’s slot at No. 14. Instead, they traded back nine picks.

The Green Bay Packers might be trading away Aaron Rodgers, opening up a window in the division the Vikings should try to take advantage of. The Bears have done just that, trading up for their quarterback of the future in Ohio State’s Justin Fields. Meanwhile, Vikings fans have to convince themselves trading back and accumulating picks is the right move.
Good luck with that.

Vikings fans have every right to be a little upset given this series of events, but with time to cool off they’ll likely realize that more picks is a good thing, assuming Rick Spielman makes the right decision at No. 23. Should he screw up again, expect #SKOL nation to have a field day, and rightly so.
