Atlanta Braves pitcher Jacob Webb went out of his way to let Kevin Pillar know just how bad he felt for drilling him in the face on Monday night.

On Monday night, there was an incredibly scary incident in the showdown between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves. That’s because in the top of the seventh inning, Mets’ Kevin Pillar was drilled in the face by a high heater from Atlanta reliever Jacob Webb.

Pillar was in an incredible amount of pain and was on the ground while blood was flowing from his face. Thankfully, he’s going to be just fine, despite suffering some nasal fractures. Webb felt awful about what happened and wasted no time in apologizing to Pillar.

It easy to understand why Webb feels so bad. The second he tossed the pitch and saw it make contact with Pillar’s face, he knelt over to the ground in disbelief. It was a complete and total accident.

Pillar knows this, which is why he of course accepted Webb’s apology and let him know that there’s absolutely no hard feelings between the two. Unfortunately, these kinds of things will happen sometimes in baseball. With pitchers tossing in the 90s, some pitches will simply just get away from them.

For Pillar, he tried his best to avoid the pitch, but just couldn’t do it in time. Again, he’s expected to make a full recovery and will hope to get back on the field and at the plate sooner than later. For Webb, he’ll look to shake this off from a mental standpoint as well, as you can tell just how terrible he felt about this.
