Patrick Mahomes reveals he almost quit football after Texas visit (Video)

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes almost quit football in high school to focus on baseball and basketball.  

The NFL could have been forever changed had Patrick Mahomes let a rough college visit get the best of him. Confused? As it turns out, Mahomes once took a trip to the Texas Longhorns as a sophomore in high school and they worked him out at safety during a camp.

Mahomes didn’t love it and spoke with his dad, a former MLB ball player, about his future. The thought of potentially quitting football and focusing on baseball and basketball crossed his mind. Goodness, Kansas City Chiefs fans probably get anxiety even thinking about this.

In the video above, Mahomes indeed admitted that quitting football crossed his mind, but the thought of not going out with his friends in high school to play was going to be too much to pass up on. Thank goodness for that, right Kansas City supporters?

After a brilliant career at Texas Tech, the Chiefs used a first-round pick on Mahomes and the rest is history. He’s led Kansas City to three consecutive AFC Championship Games and two Super Bowls, with the team taking home the Lombardi Trophy in February of 2020.

No one will ever forget that thrilling win over the San Francisco 49ers. Mahomes is a legend in Kansas City too, as he signed a $502 million deal and is also part owner of the Royals. All of that could have been wiped away had that visit to Austin gone worse for Mahomes. If anything, maybe this opened the door for Mahomes to head to Lubbock instead? Mahomes a safety?
