Tim Tebow releases humble statement after signing with Jaguars, reuniting with Urban Meyer: ‘I know it will be a challenge’
Tim Tebow is back in the NFL after signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he’ll play for his former college coach at Florida, Urban Meyer.
Guess who’s back? Back again. Tim Tebow’s back. Back again.
Tebow has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars after weeks of rumors linking the former Heisman winner and national champion at Florida and former first-round pick of the Denver Broncos reuniting with Urban Meyer.
You can’t go more than a day without Tebow dominating the NFL news cycle despite not having been in the league for the last nine years and never playing tight end, which is where he’ll try to make the Jaguars.
If not for Meyer being the head coach of the Jaguars there is zero chance this opportunity is presented to Tebow, but he is eager and excited to compete for a roster spot.
Tim Tebow grateful for opportunity to compete with Jaguars
“I want to thank the Jaguars for the opportunity to compete and earn the chance to be part of this team,” Tebow said in a statement. “I know it will be a challenge, but it is a challenge I embrace. I am dedicated to taking the direction of our coaching staff and learning from my teammates. I appreciate everyone’s support as I embark on this new journey.”
Tebow recognizing this will be a great challenge is an understatement. Tebow last suited up in the 2015 preseason and has never played tight end. He’ll be competing against tight ends who have played the position throughout college, and in most cases, in high school too. He’s never run routes, his hands have never been tested and now he’ll have to beat linebackers, safety’s and cornerbacks to get open.
Good luck with that. But Tebow will attack the challenge and embrace it while trying to help instill a culture in the Jaguars locker room that is not used to winning. Criticize Tebow all you want for getting this opportunity, and there is plenty to criticize, but he was a winner in college and brings an attitude that can rub off on others. Whether that’s going to result in him making the final 53-man roster may be a long shot.
