Two welterweight greats, Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence Jr. will clash for two welterweight titles on Aug. 21 in Las Vegas, NV.
Itāll be past vs. present, former great champ vs. current great champ, one of the best boxers of all time vs. one of the best boxers today. The legendary Manny Pacquiao and defending IBF and WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. are officially booked to meet on Aug. 21 in Las Vegas, NV.
Pacquiao posted the boutās confirmation on social media with an official poster. Mike Coppinger of The Athletic then followed with a reportās confirmation.
No official venue has been announced as of yet.
The bout will be broadcasted on pay-per-view and promoted by Al Haymonās Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), who Pacquiao has worked with multiple times previously and Spenceās promoter.
Manny Pacquiao, Errol Spence Jr. set to battle on Aug. 21 in Las Vegas for Spenceās IBF and WBC welterweight titles.
As noted by Coppinger in a follow-up tweet, Pacquiao had previously been in talks with WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford and his promoter, Bob Arumās Top Rank, over the past year. However, that fight ended up not coming to fruition, and thatās when Spence and PBC struck.
In his last fight, at the age of 40, Pacquiao dropped Keith Thurman en route to a decision win to become the WBA (Super) welterweight champion, becoming the oldest welterweight champion in the history of boxing.
Pacquiao was stripped of the WBA title in January due to inactivity.
Spence defended the IBF and WBC 147-pound titles in December, scoring a unanimous decision win over Danny Garcia.
It was Spenceās first fight since being involved in a serious October 2019 automobile accident.
The accident came just a couple of weeks after Spence defeated Shawn Porter in a highly entertaining title unification bout to win the WBC welterweight title.
Spence has been the IBF champ since knocking out Kell Brook in late May 2017.
