Montrezl Harrell says some fans used the death of his grandmother as a way to taunt him after the Los Angeles Lakers lost Game 6.

Some fans take things too far, especially on social media. Los Angeles Lakers big man Montrezl Harrell claims some people had the nerve to bring up the death of his grandmother following his team’s Game 6 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night.

Harrell told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin that some people said: “F my grandmother.”

Yikes. Some folks are absolutely brutal on social media.

It’s one thing to criticize an athlete’s performance – that’s to be expected at this level. The Lakers have to face the music after losing the series 4-2 and Game 6 by a final score of 113-100.

Harrell in particular struggled during the final game, posting the team’s worst +/- at -16 in nine minutes played. He hit just 1-of-4 shots. But still, family members, especially recently deceased ones, should be off-limits.

NBA Playoffs: Trolls attack Montrezl Harrell using his grandmother’s recent death

Harrell’s grandmother passed away in July 2020 when he played for the Los Angeles Clippers. He left the NBA’s bubble to be with his family during that time and has spoken about how much the loss has affected him.

NBA fans, when it comes to the death of a player’s family member, show some respect. Go ahead and rip his in-game performance all night long, but keep it about basketball. Don’t say anything on social media you wouldn’t say to someone’s face.
