Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid pleads not guilty to crash that injured a young girl.

On Monday, former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid, son of head coach Andy Reid, pleaded not guilty to driving while intoxicated causing serious physical injury, according to the Associated Press. In addition to pleading not guilty, a judge allowed Reid to resume driving but with restrictions.

The charges are in relation to a crash that took place back in February that caused a young girl to be critically injured.

On Feb. 4, just days before the Chiefs played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55, there were two cars stopped on an entrance ramp on Interstate 435 near Arrowhead Stadium. One of the cars had a dead battery and the other belonged to the driver’s cousin looking to help. Reid crashed into both vehicles, causing five-year-old Ariel Young to suffer a traumatic brain injury as a result of the crash.

Once Reid was charged back in April, prosecutors stated that the former Chiefs assistant was driving near 84-mph prior to the crash and had a blood alcohol level of 0.113 approximately two hours after the collision, which was well above the legal limit of 0.08.

Following the crash, the Chiefs placed Reid on administrative leave and allowed his contract to expire.

In regards to Reid’s driving restrictions, a “special interlock device” will be installed in his vehicle that will only start it if he were to pass a breathalyzer test, per the Associated Press. Additionally, there is no trial date set, but there will be a pretrial conference on July 22, per the Associated Press.
