Cards’ Jack Flaherty calls out MLB over foreign substances rule
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty is among the countless players upset with the new MLB rules on foreign substances.
Pitchers across both leagues are not happy with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred right now. Per Jeff Passan, hurlers in the bigs are now facing ejection from games and a 10-game suspension if they’re caught using foreign substances while on the bump.
Twitter has had a meltdown, with fans and players blasting Manfred for what’s going on. St. Louis Cardinals hurler Jack Flaherty made it more than clear he’s not happy with this new decision, calling MLB out for their plan.
Jack Flaherty couldn’t be more upset with the MLB changes for hurlers
With those simple four words on Twitter, Flaherty let the baseball world as a whole know just how annoyed he is. Players will now be ejected if they’re caught red-handed, while a 10-game suspension is also sending a message that no one expected.
A pitcher is no question going to lose his mind if he’s tossed from a start, while their manager will of course be quick to defend him. Everyone will be waiting for the first incident to go down. You can probably guess that the reaction on social media will surely be something else.
So, if pitchers decide to use sunscreen after the sun goes down, they’re going to be in trouble with the umps? How in the world is this going to be treated for showdowns? It just seems like MLB is out of line with this decision, with players across the country calling them out for it.
If Flaherty ever gets suspended for 10 games, you already know he’ll appeal things. At the same time, he may have a bad word or two for Mr. Manfred.
The foreign substances rule may be good for baseball in the long run, but the current crop of players is struggling with the adjustment.
