The list of accolades continues to grow for LeBron James, who received his 17th All-NBA selection on Tuesday night.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James collected two new records when he was named to the 2021-21 All-NBA Second Team on Tuesday night.

The future NBA Hall of Famer now has a league-record 17 All-NBA selections in his 18 seasons as a professional. He also joined San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan as the only players to make an All-NBA team in their 18th season or later.

James averaged 25.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.8 assists this season. At 36 years old, he is among the oldest active players in the NBA.

LeBron James adds 17th All-NBA selection to impressive resume

Remarkably consistent throughout his career, the only time James has missed an All-NBA team was way back in 2003-04, his rookie year with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has just one Third Team selection (2018-19). Here’s a breakdown of the King’s All-NBA recognitions to date.

  • 13x All-NBA First Team
  • 3x All-NBA Second Team
  • 1x All-NBA Third Team

The previous record for most All-NBA selections in a career was 15, held jointly by Duncan, the late Kobe Bryant and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

While James will almost definitely finish his career as the NBA’s all-time scoring leader and one of the game’s greatest individual performers, it is championships he craves most. A fifth title would tie him with Bryant, Duncan, Magic Johnson, Steve Kerr, Dennis Rodman and eight others for 14th on the all-time list.

Given the Lakers’ recent first-round playoff exit, LeBron James still has plenty of work to do.
