Mets: Jacob deGrom frustrated in comment after latest injury
New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom was clearly frustrated talking about his latest injury, which forced him out after three innings against the Cubs.
For the second start in a row, Jacob deGrom had to leave an impressive start because of an injury problem.
On Wednesday, shoulder soreness forced deGrom out after three innings of perfect pitching against the Cubs.
Whatever frustration Mets fans may be feeling right now, the pitcher is right there with them.
“This is getting old,” deGrom said, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. “I want to be out there competing. Hopefully, this turns out to be nothing.”
The injury issues are “getting old” for Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom
deGrom struck out eight of the nine batters he faced and threw 51 pitches before the shoulder became a problem. He didn’t feel anything amiss during his warm-ups or in the first two innings. The issue popped up on a pitch in the third inning.
A few days ago against the Padres, he made it six scoreless innings before coming out with flexor tendonitis. He’d felt the elbow issue between starts but wasn’t concerned about it, according to DiComo. It certainly didn’t stop him from going out on Wednesday.
New York needs to figure out if all of this is related before something more serious comes along. deGrom is slated to get an MRI on Thursday morning.
In a season full of dominant pitching performance, deGrom is outdoing them all. He has an ERA of 0.56 and a 6-2 record for the Mets. He was well on his way to adding to that win total on Wednesday before the shoulder flared up. Sean Reid-Foley went on to get the win, 6-3.
The only negative in 2021 for deGrom has been injury. He missed two weeks in May with back and side tightness. These latest minor issues are adding up to major concerns.
