3 Oklahoma City Thunder players who won’t be back next season
By Scott Rogust
2. Mike Muscala
As mentioned earlier, the Oklahoma City Thunder have a plethora of young talent coming not just next season but for many years after that. Given that, there are going to be players that are far down the depth chart who will likely lose their spot on the team. One of those players could very well be Mike Muscala.
The Thunder signed Muscala to a two-year, $4.3 million deal back in 2019 after a split season with the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers. Muscala’s first season in Oklahoma City left a lot to be desired, as he averaged just 4.8 points and 2.3 rebounds while shooting 40.7 percent from the field. This season, Muscala put up strong numbers, but he missed the final 33 games of the season after he was shut down due to a right ankle sprain.
In 35 games, Muscala averaged a career-high 9.7 points and 3.8 rebounds a night while shooting 44.6 percent from the field.
With the Thunder embracing the youth movement and Muscala hitting unrestricted free agency, it does not appear as though a reunion will happen this summer.
