1) Aaron Boone is running out of time to turn the Yankees’ season around

It’s pretty rare for teams to fire their general managers in the middle of a season, so it’s hard to imagine Cashman getting canned in the near future. Instead, what’s more likely to happen is the manager getting the boot for underperforming results. In this case, Aaron Boone’s seat will continue to get hotter as the Yankees slip further from the postseason.

Boone has received his fair share of criticism this season. To his credit, the Yankees have reached the postseason in each of his first three seasons as manager. His first two years at the helm also resulted in 100-plus win seasons.

Had it not been for the buzzing and banging of the Astros, New York might have been able to reach their first World Series in over a decade. Still, it’s a “what have you done for me lately?” business, and right now things just aren’t working. A lot of falls on the manager, and obviously Boone isn’t out there playing on the field, but there’s plenty that goes into the overall success of the team.

Aside from decision making, Boone needs to find ways to get his team to play at their highest levels over a 162-game stretch. That hasn’t resulted in consistent winning thus far, and it’s safe to assume his leash is getting shorter as the losing continues.
