The Chicago White Sox cannot catch a break with injuries, and now they’ll be without Yasmani Grandal until at least August.

The initial diagnosis for Grandal was not positive for a reason. As it turns out, the White Sox had every reason to be worried.

“Everybody is really concerned about him. He’s on crutches in there,” White Sox manager Tony La Russa said at the time. “Just really uncertain what the diagnosis really is going to be. Try to be patient and wait and see.”

Per the ChiSox, Grandal will miss 4-to-6 weeks with a torn tendon in his left knee. Maybe the crutches were a sign something bad happened.

Chicago has been without a number of its core so far this season, including but not limited to Nick Madrigal, Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert and more.

Chicago White Sox persevering despite injury concerns

The White Sox are really good, that much is clear. They will likely win the American League Central, as they sit six games ahead of the second-place Cleveland Indians as we near the All-Star Break.

“We have to keep doing what we’re doing,” White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease said. “It’s not like we’re in the clubhouse before the game throwing a pity party or anything. We’re preparing, and we’re going out and trying to meet the challenge.”

Clearly, whatever the White Sox are doing is working, even without a number of their top players. Should some of those contributors come back before the postseason — such as Grandal and Robert — it’ll pay dividends and make the White Sox a scary out in October.

That’s easy to say now, though.

In terms of on-roster replacements, the White Sox can turn to Zack Collins in the interim, unless they have another replacement in mind via free agency or the trade market.
