The Atlanta Braves‘ 2021 season has been far from smooth, due to the variety of injuries suffered throughout the first half. But they received awful news regarding Ronald Acuña Jr., hours after he was carted off the field during Saturday’s game against the Miami Marlins.
According to ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan, Acuña suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and will be sidelined for approximately 9-to-10 months after undergoing surgery. With that, his fourth season with the Braves is officially over.

The injury occurred as Acuña attempted to catch a fly ball from Miami Marlins rookie Jazz Chisholm Jr. in right field. After the outfielder leaped in the air, he landed awkwardly on his right leg, causing him to immediately grab at his right knee. Acuña tried to walk off the field, but sat down in pain and in tears, as he awaited a cart to take him to the dugout.
This season, Acuña was slashing .283/.394/.596 while recording 24 home runs, 52 RBI, 72 runs scored and 84 hits through 82 games. Acuña was slated to play in the 2021 MLB All-Star Game this Tuesday.
